November 21, 2011

There was a slight drizzle of rain this morning as I drove Bryan to school. We were running behind and Bryan would have to rush to make it to class before the tardy bell.

Last night Bryan and I watched The Last Samurai, a rare treat as we hardly watch movies.

Bryan kept asking about the flashbacks in the movie of the main character remembering the Battle of Little Big Horn. He was haunted by the injustice and attrocities of war.

The character's journey took him to the island of Japan and I was very excited to point out to Breeanna the scenery of Japan as we have been locating it on the map and globe for the past weeks.

It was wonderful to explain to Bryan the subcontext of the movie and battle strategies.

I always relate things to the book Art of War which by now Bryan is maybe a little tired of.

Bryan most enjoyed seeing grown men practice with wooden swords. He had been practicing Wu Shu since the age of five and is now working at mastering sword forms himself.

Thus we passed an Ohio night in November.
